I drink your milkshake. I drink it ALL up.

Imagine the feeling of being so dominant at something that “losing” is not a part of your vocabulary. Then take that feeling of indestructibility and have a Japanese chick blast it out of the park for a game ending score. On the biggest night of your life.
This is the story of the 2008 U.S. Women’s Softball Team. Unbeaten in international play since the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, this team was projected to win their fourth gold medal in 16 years…until today. The “Goddesses” of softball were triumphed and humbled in the gold medal match 3-1 against a very solid Japanese team. Upsets happen all the time in the Olympics, which is partly the reason why the Olympics are so fun to watch. But this game is particularly important since the IOC have eliminated softball/baseball for the London Games in 2012 (Other than financial constraints of maintaining a separate stadium, it was deemed that the U.S. Women’s Softball team was far too dominant, making softball a broken event). We’ll see; I doubt this will change much as far as the removal of the sport from the Olympics, but it’s not like I really care that much, either. (NO hate.)
On another note, upsets are good for sports and for everyone. Change is inevitable and everyone needs to be humbled sooner or later to be shown that perfection is a lifelong pursuit. (See (Just this year): Federer, New England Patriots, The University of Spoiled Children, The Yanke..oh wait, they suck every year, etc.) They’re exciting to watch and must provide such a high for the underdogs. It just must suck a lot to have your expectations of perfection be broken on the highest stage.
However, speaking of upsets, congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team for avenging your loss to Brazil and winning the Olympic Gold. Hope Solo has redeemed herself in my eyes by leading her injury-ridden team to a stunning 1-0 victory after that debacle in the 2007 World Cup. (Cliff Notes: Briana Scurry was chosen to play over Solo. U.S gets creamed 4-0. Solo basically tells the coach and Scurry that they’re dbags for not letting her play. She gets kicked off the team for a while. Epic failz.) Solo is sweet, pretty much.
(May edit this post later, but I know you assholes don’t really care what I have to say about the Olympics anyway)
